The day starts sweetly, with a stop at one of Switzerland's chocolate houses and time to choose a few boxes to take home. From there the road climbs into the green hills of eastern Switzerland, the country of Johanna Spyri's Heidi.
In Appenzell there is a cheese tasting and the local farm shops to browse. You then cross into the Principality of Liechtenstein for a stop at Vaduz Castle, and finish in Rapperswil, a medieval town on Lake Zurich with views of the lake and the mountains.
