Seasonal Escapes

A year in Europe, month by month. Ten months, ten named places, each with its exact window.

The calendar

TIMING IS THE ARRANGEMENT

Europe does not perform the same experience all year. The question is never only where. It is when.

The calendar below is how we actually plan. Each month has a place where the timing is right and the access is at its best.

Chalets, estates, and race week apartments are committed months ahead. We begin as early as you are ready to.

The calendar

  1. DECEMBER TO FEBRUARY

    Winter belongs to the Engadin.

December in St. Moritz for the opening of the season. January in Zermatt, when the snow is reliable and the village is quiet. February back in St. Moritz for White Turf, with Gstaad as the calmer base.

    December To February
  2. MARCH TO MAY

    Spring moves south.

March in Chamonix for the late season snow. April in Paris, before the summer crowds arrive.

    March To May
  3. JUNE AND JULY

    The height of the season.

June in Monaco for Grand Prix week, then Art Basel and the French Riviera in its best fortnight. July in London for the Championships, with the Cotswolds for the weekend after.

    June And July
  4. AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER

    The slow end of summer.

August in Bodrum, on the water. September on the Amalfi Coast as the crowds thin, then the Douro Valley for harvest.

    August And September

WHY TIMING MATTERS

The difference between a good trip and the right one.

  • THE EXACT WINDOW

Not the general season. The specific weeks when the access is best and the place is what it should be.

  • ADVANCE COMMITMENT

Alpine chalets and coastal estates are committed months ahead by clients who know what they want. Planning starts as early as you are ready.

  • ALTERNATIVES PREPARED

Seasons carry variables. Alternative programmes are prepared before you travel. If the conditions change, the arrangement does not unravel.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

What are Seasonal Escapes?

A year in Europe read month by month: ten named places, each with its exact window, planned as single journeys through Private Travel Design. The calendar is the itinerary. Everything else follows from the date.

Why does timing matter more than destination?

Because the same place changes completely by month. A harbour town in July and the same town in November are two different journeys with the same name. We plan around when a place is at its best, not when it is merely open.

Where should winter begin?

At altitude. The Engadine in deep winter, St. Moritz when the lake freezes, Chamonix for clients who want the mountain more than the scene. December to March rewards planning; the best rooms in the best weeks go first.

How far ahead are seasonal windows booked?

The narrow ones close first. Harvest weeks, festival dates, the first reliable snow: these are committed long before the season starts. A conversation a few months ahead keeps the full range open. And some windows are worth planning a year out.
