From Zurich the road runs through open country and past lakes into central Switzerland. You ride Europe's oldest cogwheel railway to the top of Mount Rigi, the queen of the mountains, with time at the summit for a short walk, the view over the lakes and the Alps, and lunch if you like.

You come down by train or on foot and cross Lake Lucerne by boat. In Lucerne your driver-guide shows you the Chapel Bridge with its painted panels, the Water Tower, the Jesuit Church and the Lion Monument, with time to walk the old streets.
