The day crosses two borders. It begins in Riquewihr, one of the prettiest villages in Alsace, with flowers on its half-timbered houses, and continues to Colmar, a town of canals and pastel facades, for a wine tasting and lunch. Colmar is the birthplace of Bartholdi, who made the Statue of Liberty, and a replica stands in the town.
In the afternoon you cross into the Black Forest. At Titisee there is time for a walk along the lake, the cuckoo clocks and a slice of Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, the cake that comes from here, before the drive back.
