The Vierwaldstattersee is four lakes pretending to be one, bent around headlands, with mountains coming straight down into the water on the southern arms. From the shore you see a fraction of it. From a boat you see why people build houses here.
We collect you in Lucerne, or at whatever point is closest to where you are staying. The boat is the best on the lake. What happens after that is genuinely up to you: a long slow loop with lunch on board, or an afternoon of swimming off the back while somebody else worries about where the sun is.
A boat day almost always runs longer than the plan allowed for. That is usually the sign it worked.
If height is what you are after rather than water, the mountains around the same lake are the other way to spend the day. This is a private tour by water rather than by road, which on Lake Lucerne is how the place is best understood. Skipper, drinks and towels aboard. Half day or full day tour. Pilatus and Rigi stand on either side of this water, and going up them is the other way to take Lucerne. Both are in the list of days. Water at its loudest rather than its calmest is the Rhine Falls, where a boat runs out to the rock in the middle of the river. The same shore in December, walked after dark, is the Christmas markets.
