Zermatt is not a day trip.
A private tour to Zermatt and the Matterhorn, arranged the way it should be.
Zermatt is three and a half hours from Zurich and the village has been car-free for a century, so a day trip runs to roughly eleven hours with perhaps four of them actually spent in Zermatt. We will arrange it that way if you ask us to. We would rather give you one night, put you on the first Gornergrat train of the morning, and hand you the mountain before the crowd has reached it.

- A private driver from Zurich as far as Täsch, where the shuttle train covers the last twelve minutes into the village.

- There is snow on Klein Matterhorn in August, and July is the month when mountain railway tickets have to be held well in advance.

Add the mountain railway at the far end and a day trip becomes eleven hours of which perhaps four are actually in Zermatt, most of them queuing behind everyone else who came for the same photograph.
One night changes it completely. You arrive in the afternoon, you are on the first train up the following morning before the crowd, and the mountain is yours for two hours. It is the difference between seeing the Matterhorn and spending time with it.

If one mountain in one day is what the schedule allows, Jungfraujoch does it properly and returns to Zurich in time for dinner. Zermatt sits among the other private tours for the days when there is more room. For high ground without the drive, the ice is twenty minutes away by helicopter.
